Ecovyst Inc. operates in essential sulfur chemicals, providing virgin and regenerated sulfuric acid, along with off-site catalyst activation services through Chem32. The company relies on a network concentrated along the Gulf Coast to serve refining, mining, and industrial applications; demand for regenerated acid is tied to refinery utilization rates and alkylate economics, while the expansion of copper and gold projects supports sales of virgin acid and sulfur dioxide. Following the sale of the Advanced Materials & Catalysts segment in December 2025, Ecovyst deepened its sulfur platform by adding the Waggaman facility in May 2025 and acquiring Calabrian on June 30, 2026.
In Q2 of fiscal year 2026, revenue was $250.0 million, gross profit was $49.8 million, net income was $7.9 million, and earnings per share were $0.07. This equates to a gross profit margin of approximately 19.9%, compared with revenue of $215.0 million, gross profit of $36.4 million, and a margin of approximately 16.9% in Q1 of fiscal year 2026. Year over year, sales increased by $74 million, or 42%, but $55 million of the increase resulted from passing through higher sulfur costs and had no material impact on adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization.
Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization were $53 million in Q2 of fiscal year 2026, up 27%, driven by higher regenerated and virgin acid volumes and favorable contract pricing, offset by pressure from manufacturing, inflation, and transportation costs. Volume growth, including Waggaman, contributed approximately $7 million, while net price and variable cost added approximately $9 million. Calabrian represents approximately 10% of the group’s business and adds sulfur dioxide and its derivatives at an adjusted earnings margin slightly higher than that of the existing acid business.
The average analyst target is $14, which is also both the highest and lowest target, with a consensus rating of “Buy”; this target is approximately 7.2% below the 52-week range high of $15.085 and approximately 88.9% above its low of $7.41. No positive price-to-earnings multiple is available because of the twelve-month loss of $137.7 million and negative earnings per share, so the stock’s valuation depends more heavily on the achievement of adjusted earnings and cash flow guidance and the successful integration of Calabrian, while noting that identical analyst targets of $14 do not provide a diverse range for measuring differences in estimates.

Q2 fiscal year 2026 sales increased to $250 million, up $74 million or 42% year over year. After excluding $55 million from the sulfur cost pass-through, growth was approximately 11%, driven by higher regenerated and virgin acid volumes and favorable contract pricing. The Waggaman facility, acquired in May 2025, contributed to double-digit growth in virgin acid volume, while refinery utilization rates and alkylate economics supported regenerated acid sales.
Ecovyst completed the transaction on June 30, 2026, adding sulfur dioxide and its derivatives to its sulfur chemicals portfolio. Management expects Calabrian to contribute between $10 million and $12 million in adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization in the second half of fiscal year 2026, with revenue and cost synergies of between $3 million and $4 million over the following one or two years. The acquired business represents approximately 10% of the group and has an adjusted earnings margin slightly higher than that of the existing acid business, and management said the integration was proceeding according to plan on August 5, 2026.

The company expects revenue of between $1.02 billion and $1.06 billion and adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization of between $195 million and $207 million in fiscal year 2026. It also expects adjusted free cash flow of between $45 million and $55 million, adjusted net income of between $65 million and $85 million, and adjusted diluted earnings per share of between $0.58 and $0.72. Expected capital expenditures range from $85 million to $95 million, while the estimate for interest expense remained between $18 million and $22 million.
The impact of passing through higher sulfur costs on Q2 fiscal year 2026 sales was approximately $55 million, but it had no material impact on adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization. The company raised its estimate of the pass-through impact on fiscal year 2026 revenue to approximately $220 million above the prior year, compared with a previous estimate of $155 million. Contract pricing protects part of the business economics, but higher prices increase working capital and may weaken some industrial applications or prompt customers to reduce inventory if they expect prices to decline.
Financing for the transaction added $100 million to debt, raising the ratio of net debt to adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization from 1.2 times on March 31, 2026, to 2 times at the end of Q2 of fiscal year 2026. The ratio remained at the low end of management’s target range of between 2 times and 2.5 times, although the calculation included all transaction debt without Calabrian’s contribution to earnings for the previous twelve months. Available liquidity was $176 million, split evenly between $88 million in cash and $88 million available through an ABL facility.
Management expects virgin acid volumes to decline from second-half fiscal year 2025 levels because of lower spot sales and scheduled maintenance that constrains production. It also expects higher maintenance costs in Q3 and Q4 of fiscal year 2026 and lower pricing excluding the cost pass-through in Q4 because of customer mix and timing differences in transferring sulfur costs. In addition, higher sulfur prices may pressure working capital and industrial demand, while the twelve-month net loss was $137.7 million despite Q2 returning to a net profit of $7.9 million.
