United Therapeutics shares closed at $601.32 in the November 3, 2026 session, according to EL7 data, while a company statement issued on November 4 referenced the share repurchase program approved by the board in October. The authorization allows purchases of up to $2 billion in common shares and remains in effect through October 21, 2027. The announcement comes amid third-quarter results that showed revenue rising alongside declines in net income and earnings per share. Chief Financial Officer James Edmund said the balance sheet and free cash flow give the company the capacity to fund its long-term ambitions. He added: "We have the balance sheet and free cash flow to fund our long-term ambitions."

The authorization gives the company a new ceiling for share repurchases, but does not require it to make specific purchases. The company said the program does not require the purchase of a minimum number of shares and that it can begin or suspend purchases without prior notice. Edmund linked the timing of any action to the company's assessment of its shares, saying it would act when it viewed the stock as an attractive investment. That places the buyback decision within the company's capital management, rather than on a published schedule of confirmed purchases. The actual execution volume also remains subject to company decisions during the authorization period.

The new program follows the exhaustion of the remaining balance of a previous $2 billion authorization. On September 8, the company agreed to an accelerated repurchase of about $477.6 million to complete use of that authorization. The company had announced agreements in March to repurchase shares for a total of $1.5 billion. In addition to those agreements, it bought $22.4 million of shares on the open market during the third quarter of 2026. These earlier transactions show that repurchases included large agreements and direct purchases before the new ceiling was approved in October.

The company statement does not attribute record sales to either product; it reports their year-over-year growth as part of the sales details. Tyvaso DPI sales rose, while sales of the inhaled nebulized formulation of Tyvaso declined. Orenitram sales helped support overall growth, reflecting differing trends among products in the portfolio. By contrast, the company's earnings, net income and earnings per share declined, leaving a mixed results picture of expanding revenue and earnings pressure.

The next step is to execute the authorization during the available period through October 21, 2027, with no binding minimum purchase or commitment to a specific schedule. The company retains the option to begin or suspend purchases at its discretion, while Edmund said it would act when it viewed its shares as an attractive investment. The authorization therefore sets the maximum permitted amount for repurchases, while execution will depend on subsequent company decisions. The closing price recorded in the November 3 session provides a market reference from before the results statement was issued the following day.
