Birla Corporation profit falls 59% to 37.47 crore rupees in second quarter
Key Facts
ScanX reported that Birla Corporation’s consolidated net profit was 37.47 crore rupees in the second quarter of fiscal 2027, down 59% from 90.48 crore rupees in the same period of fiscal 2026. The profit decline coincided with higher operating revenue, highlighting a widening gap between revenue growth and the bottom line during the quarter. The platform said operating revenue increased 9.5% year on year to 2,415.42 crore rupees. ScanX presented the figures in crore rupees, the unit used here. The figures remain attributed to a secondary source, as an open official disclosure of the second-quarter results could not be accessed.
In the segment performance breakdown reported by ScanX, the cement segment’s result fell to 112.08 crore rupees in the second quarter of fiscal 2027, from 196.41 crore rupees in the same period a year earlier. This put the segment’s result below its comparable level, alongside lower consolidated net profit and higher operating revenue. However, these segment figures were not confirmed here against an open company disclosure, so they do not by themselves establish the reasons for the profit decline or the effects of costs or sales volumes. An earlier draft described the decline as a fall in the segment’s "profits" and cited cost pressures as an explanation; the available evidence does not support that explanation as a confirmed cause. Higher operating revenue also does not in itself prove that sales volumes increased.
The previous year’s results provide a point of comparison: in the second quarter of fiscal 2026, Birla Corporation reported consolidated revenue of 2,233 crore rupees, up 13.4% year on year, while earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization were 332 crore rupees, up 71.1%. Cement sales by volume were 4.25 million tonnes, compared with 3.97 million tonnes in the corresponding quarter of fiscal 2025, an increase of 7%. These indicators relate to the previous fiscal year’s second quarter and are not figures for the current quarter. In its results statement for that quarter, management expected a recovery in cement demand during the three months ending in December 2025, driven by government infrastructure spending, and forecast year-on-year sales volume growth of between 4% and 5% in that quarter.
The company’s official financial results page listed results for the first quarter of fiscal 2027, along with results for the second quarter of fiscal 2026 and earlier periods. The company also scheduled an investor and analyst call to discuss the standalone and consolidated results for the period ended September 30, 2026, on November 2, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. India time. The call is the next announced date for discussing the quarter and half-year results with investors and analysts.
