Strategy Buys 250 Bitcoin for $21.5 Million and Repurchases $192.4 Million of STRC
Key Facts
Strategy bought 250 Bitcoin for $21.5 million during the period from October 5 to 11, 2026, at an average price of $86,194 per coin, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission announced on October 12. Over the same period, the company repurchased 1,932,145 shares of its STRC preferred stock for $192.4 million. Preferred share repurchases therefore exceeded the value of its Bitcoin purchases by about nine times, highlighting the scale of the activity the company devoted to its financing instruments during the week. The repurchase did not involve MSTR common shares, contrary to what appeared in the initial version of the report. The company also disclosed that it sold MSTR shares to fund most of its Bitcoin purchase.
Strategy’s total holdings stood at 848,250 Bitcoin on October 11, with an aggregate purchase cost of $64.00 billion and an average cost of $75,444 per coin. The week’s purchases added 250 units to that balance, while the average price of the new units remained above the disclosed average cost of the total holdings. The filing figures show that the company used more than one source to fund its latest purchase. Net proceeds from MSTR share sales provided $21.0 million, while dollar cash contributed $0.5 million. The share-sale proceeds matched the bulk of the value of the disclosed Bitcoin purchases.
The company sold 125,183 MSTR shares through its at-the-market offering program over the same period, generating net proceeds of $21.0 million. It used those proceeds to fund Bitcoin purchases, along with $0.5 million from available dollar cash. On October 11, its dollar reserve stood at $4.88 billion, alongside $640.5 million in dollar cash. Strategy says the reserve is intended to support preferred stock distributions and interest on outstanding debt. The company says dollar cash may be used to buy Bitcoin, expand the reserve or for broader capital-management purposes.
After the STRC repurchase, Strategy had $354.8 million remaining available under its preferred stock repurchase program. Another $1 billion remained available under its MSTR common stock repurchase program, according to the disclosure announced on October 12. The filing distinguishes between the two programs and the two types of stock: the completed transaction involved STRC preferred shares, while the other balance relates to the MSTR common stock program. The company had repurchased 740,634 STRC shares for $73.7 million between October 1 and 4. During that earlier period, it also bought 334 Bitcoin for $28.7 million, at an average price of $85,838.8 per coin.
In a separate move concerning preferred stock distributions, the company put forward a vote on changing the distribution frequency to daily payments, with accrual for each calendar day and payment on the next business day. Strategy said the proposal would not change the annual distribution rate, but would result in smaller, more frequent payments. It said the aims of the change include reducing delays in reinvestment and improving liquidity and price stability. If approved, the first daily accrual date for STRC would be November 1, 2026, with payment on November 2. Daily accrual for STRF, STRK and STRD would begin on January 1, 2027, with the first payment on January 4.
In a subsequent disclosure dated October 19, Strategy said it repurchased 1,938,780 STRC shares for $193.1 million during the period from October 12 to 18. At the same time, it announced that it had raised the cap on its digital credit instrument repurchase program from $2 billion to $3 billion. This followed the earlier disclosure showing $354.8 million remaining in the preferred stock repurchase program, but concerns a later period and a separate announcement. MSTR closed at $145.8 on October 22, according to EL7 data. The disclosure on the October 5 to 11 transaction did not report a session high or low for the stock that day.
