Visteon takes $77 million warranty charge, cuts 2026 earnings outlook
Key Facts
Visteon incurred an exceptional warranty charge of $77 million in the third quarter of 2026 and cut its annual earnings outlook due to warranty and cost pressures, according to its earnings release published via PR Newswire. Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization totaled $46 million for the period, including the charge, with the outlook revision coming as the profit measure declined from the previous quarter. The company reported adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization of $116 million in the second quarter of the same year, according to that period's earnings release on its investor relations website. Visteon described the previous quarter's performance as delivering a "margin of 12.1%," before the exceptional warranty charge was included in third-quarter results. The company reported third-quarter gross profit of $47 million, a figure that also included the warranty charge. Net income attributable to Visteon totaled $5 million for the same period, according to the earnings release.
Visteon's sales, meanwhile, rose to $970 million in the third quarter of 2026 from $917 million in the corresponding period of 2025, according to figures in the company's release. The increase came despite a 5% year-on-year decline in its customers' vehicle production during the quarter, with sales moving in the opposite direction to production across its customer base. Visteon said it recorded growth above market of 10% by its own measure in its review of business performance for the period. On the product front, the company launched 21 new products during the third quarter as quarterly sales grew. It also announced $0.9 billion in new business wins during the same quarter, reporting the contract awards alongside sales and product launch results. The company identified displays and the Indian market as drivers of those new business wins, according to its release.
On its balance sheet, Visteon ended the third quarter with cash of $466 million against debt of $330 million at the end of the period, according to the earnings release. During the quarter, it announced the completion of its $200 million accelerated share repurchase program, reporting the program as completed in its update to shareholders for the period. The latest results follow the company's original 2026 outlook announced in February and included in an earnings release filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. That outlook targeted annual sales of between $3.625 billion and $3.825 billion before the range was raised in the latest update. The original adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization outlook ranged from $455 million to $495 million for the same year. The company at the time set an adjusted free cash flow range of $170 million to $210 million, also above the range announced with its third-quarter results.
In its 2026 update, Visteon raised its annual sales target range to between $3.80 billion and $3.85 billion, according to the third-quarter release. At the same time, it cut its adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization outlook to a range of $370 million to $410 million, with revenue and profitability forecasts revised in opposite directions. The company also lowered its annual adjusted free cash flow forecast to between $90 million and $130 million in the annual update accompanying the results. It said its adjusted free cash flow estimates take inventory buildup into account, alongside the changes announced to its other financial targets. Visteon scheduled its third-quarter earnings conference call with the investment community for 22 October 2026, according to the scheduling announcement on its website. The call is scheduled to begin at 09:00 a.m. U.S. Eastern Time.
