Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel stated that gold's role in the global monetary system will grow due to increasing geopolitical uncertainty. Kitco reported that Nagel identified rising global sovereign debt and concerns over financial sanctions as key drivers reshaping how central banks manage their reserve assets.
Nagel noted that gold's share of global central bank reserves has risen sharply, climbing from approximately 14% in 2023 to nearly 25%. This trend persists as the global economy faces inflationary pressures, while the Bundesbank remains the world's second-largest official holder of the metal with more than 3,500 tonnes in its reserves.
