2The project will permanently burn 303,333,198 treasury-held ROUTE, about 30% of a maximum supply of nearly 1 billion.

4The project plans to make selected technology components open source after 4 years of engineering work.

Router Protocol said it will cease all operations by September 30, 2026, after efforts during the past year to commercialize or license its technology or find an acquirer failed to produce a sustainable path for the project.

The project attributed the decision to economic pressure on cross-chain bridge services, saying fees no longer covered persistent operating costs, activity was concentrated on fewer networks and some capital had shifted toward artificial intelligence.

As part of the closure plan, Router Protocol will permanently burn 303,333,198 ROUTE from its treasury. The amount represents about 30% of the token's maximum supply of nearly 1 billion.

The project will coordinate with centralized exchanges on ROUTE support timetables, with each venue setting its own schedule. September 30, 2026, is therefore the deadline for protocol operations, not necessarily a common date for every venue.

Router Protocol said it will introduce no new ROUTE-related programs and that any markets or liquidity pools created independently in the future will not be affiliated with the project.

The project plans to make selected technology components open source, preserving part of the engineering completed over 4 years. Coinbase Ventures participated in Router Protocol's $4.1 million funding round in 2021, showing that the documented relationship was historical and investment-based.
