The ISM Non-Manufacturing Business Activity Index is a sub-component of the Services PMI that specifically measures the level of output in the service sector. It reflects the pace of business operations and is a key indicator of the health of the non-manufacturing economy. High readings suggest robust growth in the services sector, which accounts for the majority of US GDP.
Calculated from a survey of purchasing and supply executives across more than 60 industries. It is a diffusion index where respondents report whether business activity is increasing, decreasing, or unchanged compared to the prior month.
