About This Indicator

Description

Tracks the quarterly change in the cost of providing employee benefits, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid leave. As a component of the Employment Cost Index, it reflects the non-wage portion of total compensation costs. Significant increases in benefit costs can contribute to overall labor cost inflation.

Methodology

Derived from the National Compensation Survey, measuring the cost per hour worked for a variety of employer-provided benefits. The data is seasonally adjusted to account for recurring patterns in benefit disbursements.
