About This Indicator

Description

The 4-Week Bill Auction determines the yield on the shortest-term debt obligations issued by the U.S. Treasury. These auctions are key indicators of short-term interest rate expectations and overall market liquidity. Investors closely monitor the 'bid-to-cover' ratio, which compares the amount of bids received to the amount accepted, to assess demand for government debt. The resulting yield influences various short-term lending rates across the financial system.

Methodology

The auction is conducted using a Dutch auction format where the highest yield required to sell the entire offering becomes the rate for all successful bidders. Both competitive and non-competitive bids are accepted.
