About This Indicator

Description

The 3-Month Bill Auction is a weekly sale of short-term U.S. Treasury bills with a maturity of 13 weeks. These bills are sold at a discount to their face value and do not pay regular interest. They are considered one of the safest investments in the world and serve as a key benchmark for short-term interest rates. The auction results provide insight into the liquidity levels in the financial system and investor sentiment regarding near-term monetary policy.

Methodology

Treasury bills are auctioned on a discount basis. The discount rate and investment yield are determined by competitive bidding, where the highest discount rate that allows the Treasury to sell the desired amount becomes the rate for all successful bidders.
