About This Indicator

Description

Household Consumption Year-over-Year measures the change in the total inflation-adjusted value of all goods and services purchased by households compared to the same month in the previous year. It is a primary indicator of consumer confidence and economic vitality, as private consumption typically accounts for a significant portion of a country's GDP. Rising consumption suggests a robust economy and can signal future inflationary pressures. Conversely, declining consumption may indicate economic stagnation or a shift toward increased household saving.

Methodology

The data is compiled from national surveys and retail reports, adjusted for seasonal variations and inflation to provide a 'real' growth figure. It includes spending on durable goods, non-durable goods, and services.
