Overtime Pay YoY measures the annual change in compensation paid to employees for work performed beyond standard hours in Japan. This indicator is a sensitive measure of labor demand and business activity. Increasing overtime pay often precedes new hiring and reflects rising industrial production. It is also a critical component of total cash earnings, influencing consumer spending patterns.
The data is collected through the Monthly Labour Survey conducted by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, covering establishments with five or more employees.
