The Average Weekly Earnings YoY measures the annual percentage change in the gross weekly wages paid to employees in Ireland. This indicator provides critical insights into wage inflation and the overall health of the labor market. Higher-than-expected growth in earnings can signal increased consumer purchasing power but may also lead to inflationary pressures. It is a key metric for the Central Statistics Office (CSO) and is closely watched by the European Central Bank to assess regional economic conditions.
The data is calculated by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) using the Earnings, Hours and Employment Costs Survey (EHECS). It aggregates gross earnings before tax and social insurance contributions across various economic sectors, excluding agriculture, forestry, and fishing.
