The Core Retail Price Index (RPI) YoY tracks the annual percentage change in the prices of retail goods and services, excluding mortgage interest payments. It provides a long-term view of inflation trends in the UK economy, helping policymakers assess the cost of living. Because it excludes volatile housing finance costs, it is considered a more stable measure of price pressure than the headline RPI.
The index compares the current month's prices to the same month in the previous year, excluding mortgage interest. It uses a Laspeyres-type formula applied to a fixed basket of goods and services.
