The Core Retail Price Index (RPI) MoM measures the month-over-month change in the cost of a representative basket of retail goods and services in the UK, excluding mortgage interest payments. It is a key measure of underlying inflation that strips out the volatility caused by housing finance costs. This indicator is often used in wage negotiations and for indexing certain government bonds.
It is calculated by comparing the prices of thousands of items across the UK, excluding the mortgage interest component. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) uses a weighted basket to reflect consumer spending patterns.
