Average Earnings including bonuses, or Average Weekly Earnings total pay, tracks average weekly pay per employee across Great Britain. The headline is the 3-month average change versus the same period a year earlier, after seasonal adjustment. It covers employees in businesses in Great Britain, not the whole United Kingdom, excluding self-employed people, armed forces and supported trainees.
The Office for National Statistics publishes it each month from a survey of about 9000 businesses covering about 12.8 million employees. Its companion regular pay series excludes bonuses, so the gap between total and regular shows how awards shape growth. It was built with the Bank of England and HM Treasury to gauge wage-driven inflation pressure, with no fixed market threshold stated. It is not a pay rate gauge, since hiring mix and paid hours move the average while hourly rates stay fixed.
