The 2-Year Schatz Auction involves the issuance of German federal treasury notes, which serve as the benchmark for short-term Eurozone debt. As Germany is the largest economy in the bloc, these auctions reflect investor sentiment regarding the European Central Bank's monetary policy path. The Schatz is highly liquid and often used by institutional investors as a safe-haven asset.
The German Finance Agency conducts the auction on behalf of the federal government, accepting competitive bids from members of the Bund Issues Auction Group.
