The GDP Implicit Price Deflator measures the changes in prices for all of the goods and services produced in an economy. Unlike the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which is based on a fixed basket of goods, the GDP deflator allows the basket of goods to change as consumption and investment patterns shift. It provides a comprehensive measure of inflation within the entire economy on a quarterly basis.
It is calculated by dividing the Nominal GDP by the Real GDP and then multiplying by 100. The quarterly percentage change reflects the rate of price increases or decreases across all sectors.
