The Ai Group Manufacturing Index measures changes in the level of activity and performance in the Australian manufacturing sector. It is a diffusion index where a reading above 50 indicates that manufacturing is generally expanding. The index covers several sub-sectors, including food and beverages, machinery, and chemicals. It provides a comprehensive snapshot of the industrial side of the Australian economy.
The index is based on a monthly survey of a national sample of manufacturing companies. It tracks production, new orders, deliveries, inventories, and employment to calculate the headline figure.
