The dollar figures in the headlines are correct — but the document describes 30 June positions, not today’s positions.
Eight headlines report multibillion-dollar stake purchases, all traceable to one document. That document is the quarterly holdings disclosure (Form 13F) filed by BlackRock on 7 August 2026; it describes positions as they stood on 30 June 2026, or 53 days before those headlines were published. 22 August 2026 fell on a Saturday, when the Securities and Exchange Commission accepted no filings.
The dollar figures in the headlines are correct; the error is in the verb and the implied timing, not the number. We found no single new position among the 36 issuers reviewed in this group: 12 positions declined and 24 increased. Indeed, positions in three of the eight names declined despite being described as purchases: Tyler Technologies by 11.00%, lululemon by 6.85%, and Everest Group by 2.33%.
Those acting on the news pay the delay bill: between 30 June and 21 August, Five Below rose 39.18%, Leidos 37.31%, and APA 33.22%, against 2.33% for the S&P 500 over the same period. The group’s only genuine change was in Conagra — an increase of 58.70% in shares held — and it did not make a headline.
