CervoMed Narrows Quarterly Loss to $5.9 Million Amid Funding-Continuity Warning

Key Facts

1Net loss was $5.9 million in the third quarter of 2026, compared with $7.7 million a year earlier.
2Liquidity and marketable securities totaled $19.6 million as of September 30, 2026, and the company said they were insufficient for at least 12 months.
3The nine-month loss rose to $20.4 million from $18.9 million, and cash used in operating activities was $20.0 million.
4The company recorded no revenue from the National Institute on Aging grant in the third quarter of 2026, compared with $0.3 million a year earlier.

CervoMed reported a net loss of $5.9 million for the three months ended September 30, 2026, compared with $7.7 million in the same period a year earlier, a decrease of $1.8 million. In its quarterly report filed on November 6, 2026, the company said the narrower loss was mainly due to a decline in total operating expenses, partly offset by lower grant revenue. The quarterly improvement reflects a smaller loss than a year earlier, while the company continues to face a funding gap tied to its ability to continue operations. It said cash and cash equivalents and marketable securities do not provide sufficient funding for operating expenses and capital expenditures for at least 12 months from the date the financial statements were issued. It also said substantial doubt about its ability to continue as a going concern had not been alleviated.

The company attributed part of the narrower quarterly loss to lower research and development costs, while general and administrative expenses rose. In contrast, it recorded no revenue from the National Institute on Aging grant during the third quarter of 2026, after revenue of $0.3 million in the corresponding quarter of 2025. It explained that completion of the RewinD-LB trial in mid-2025 meant no additional grant funding was available or expected. The decline in some spending items therefore coincided with the disappearance of a funding source that had contributed to comparative-period revenue. The results do not indicate growth in commercial revenue; the company explained the changes through expenses and the grant.

For the nine months ended September 30, net loss rose to $20.4 million from $18.9 million in the corresponding period of 2025. Cash used in operating activities was $20.0 million during the first nine months of 2026. The company said the increase in the period's loss was mainly due to a $4.0 million decline in grant revenue and a $0.6 million decrease in interest income, partly offset by a $3.1 million reduction in operating expenses. The comparison highlights the different trajectory for the nine-month period and the latest quarter: the loss narrowed on a quarterly basis but widened for the year-to-date period. Operating cash use puts this divergence in the context of the company's funding needs.

Liquidity and marketable securities totaled $19.6 million as of September 30, 2026, while the accumulated deficit was $118.1 million. CervoMed said this balance is insufficient to cover operating expenses and capital needs for at least 12 months from the date the financial statements were issued, and acknowledged that substantial doubt about its ability to continue as a going concern had not been alleviated. This makes securing funding a direct focus of its clinical plans as the company continues to develop neflamapimod. The company says advancing the drug through clinical trials, including the planned Phase 3 trial for dementia with Lewy bodies, is contingent on funding availability. It added that funding could come through a strategic partnership or another means, without specifying a timeline or financing agreement in the disclosure.
