Maxis Net Profit Reaches 447 Million Ringgit in Third Quarter
Key Facts
Maxis posted net profit of 447 million ringgit for the third quarter ended September 30, 2026, compared with 412 million ringgit in the same period a year earlier, according to Bernama Biz. Revenue rose 3.7% year on year to 2.68 billion ringgit, according to The Edge Malaysia. The Edge said the quarter coincided with the launch of the latest iPhone 18 series and Samsung foldable devices. Maxis declared an interim dividend of 4.5 sen per share, payable on December 22, 2026. Total dividends since the start of the year stood at 12.50 sen per share, according to the company as cited by The Edge.
For the first nine months of 2026, net profit rose 10.1% year on year to 1.30 billion ringgit, while revenue increased 4.0% to 8.07 billion ringgit, according to The Edge. Device revenue rose about 15% during the period, while service revenue, which excludes device sales, grew 1.1%. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization also increased 3.6%, and capital expenditure was 548 million ringgit. The figures show two distinct trends within the business: faster growth in device sales and slower growth in service revenue. Maxis said higher service revenue and lower costs contributed to the quarterly profit increase, according to The Edge.
In the consumer segment, mobile service revenue rose 1.4% year on year to 1.59 billion ringgit in the third quarter, according to The Star. But mobile subscribers fell 2.8% to 9.59 million following adjustments related to new prepaid SIM registration guidelines. In home services, revenue rose 0.8% to 257 million ringgit, alongside a 3.6% increase in home connections to 816,000. The company attributed the expansion of the home segment's margin to its self-built fiber network. These indicators reflect growth in home and mobile service revenue despite a decline in the mobile subscriber base.
In the enterprise segment, service revenue increased 0.2% year on year to 419 million ringgit during the quarter. Maxis said enterprise and wholesale network solutions remained a key growth driver, with demand linked to AI workloads and data center expansion. The company also pointed to the spread of Internet of Things applications, including smart meters and connected vehicles. Chief Executive Officer Goh Seow Eng said the quarter's performance "reflects the strength of our operating model and converged strategy," adding that disciplined execution continues to support cash generation. Enterprise activity adds a source of growth alongside consumer services and devices, although its quarterly revenue increase was modest.
Goh said the company's full-year guidance remained on track, with low-single-digit growth targeted in service revenue and earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization during 2026. Maxis also targets capital expenditure of about 10% of total revenue this year, according to guidance cited by The Edge. The ex-dividend date is November 27, 2026, with payment due on December 22, according to The Star. Before the results were announced during the midday trading break on November 6, Maxis shares fell 10 sen, or less than 3%, to 3.50 ringgit. The Edge estimated the company's market capitalization at about 27 billion ringgit at the time.
The third-quarter results provide an update on performance Maxis reported in the second quarter of 2026. In that quarter, profit after tax was 436 million ringgit, up 9.5% year on year, while service revenue rose 2.2% to 2.25 billion ringgit, according to the company's statement. The comparison places the third-quarter figures within a year-on-year growth trend already seen in the previous quarter, although the disclosures use different profit measures: net profit in the third-quarter results and profit after tax in the second-quarter statement. The company's 2026 guidance remains a reference point for service revenue, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, and capital expenditure for the rest of the year.
