Lionsgate Revenue Rises 41% to $668.8 Million in Second Quarter
Key Facts
Lionsgate reported revenue of $668.8 million in the second quarter of fiscal 2027, up 41% year over year, according to the company’s quarterly results page. Revenue growth coincided with a narrower net loss from continuing operations attributable to shareholders of $15.5 million, compared with $111.9 million in the same quarter of the prior fiscal year. The company remained in a net loss despite the improvement from a year earlier. It also swung from an operating loss of $46 million a year earlier to operating income of $29.1 million in the latest quarter. The results show simultaneous improvement in revenue and operating performance, alongside a decline in the loss attributable to shareholders.
The film segment generated revenue of $359.3 million, up 30% from the year-earlier period, while segment profit reached $88.7 million. Lionsgate attributed the segment’s performance to the continued contribution of “Michael” and the ongoing strength of its content library. The company did not attribute revenue growth to the library alone, citing both the film and the library’s strength in its explanation of film results. Library revenue over the trailing twelve months totaled $1.04 billion through the second fiscal quarter. The company said that was the second-highest level of library revenue in the studio’s history, putting the period’s performance in the broader context of returns from accumulated content.
Television production generated revenue of $309.5 million, up 56% year over year, and segment profit rose 73% to $21.6 million. The company linked the improvement in production to an increase in episode deliveries during the quarter. Deliveries included “Power: Origins,” the second season of “The Studio” and the second season of “The Hunting Wives.” The figures show that television growth spanned both revenue and profit, while increased episode deliveries provided an operational explanation for the production improvement. According to the results, the segment, alongside film, contributed to improved studio business during the period.
On another operating measure, adjusted operating income before depreciation and amortization was $72 million, compared with $14.1 million a year earlier. The company describes the measure as non-GAAP, making it a supplement to the reported operating income and net loss figures. Chief Executive Jon Feltheimer said the strong performance reflected the coming together of elements of the fiscal 2027 plan. He added that the quarterly results strengthened management’s confidence in its expectation for significant growth in the measure during the year. The statement comes as film and television segment profits increased and operating income returned to positive territory.
The company said contracted theatrical backlog, or future revenue not yet recognized, was $1.5 billion in the second fiscal quarter. The figure reflects a future contractual balance, separate from revenue the company had already recorded during the period. In addition, management said it saw positive momentum in the quarter and had increasing visibility into the growth trajectory for fiscal 2028 and 2029. That assessment describes management’s expectations for the company’s trajectory, while the quarterly figures focus on performance during the reported period. Before the results were announced, Lionsgate shares, listed under the ticker LION, closed at $12.72 on November 4, 2026.
Lionsgate had scheduled a conference call for analysts and investors to discuss the quarterly results on November 5, 2026, at 5 p.m. Eastern Time. The call follows the release of revenue, loss and operating income figures, as well as management’s explanation of the performance of the film and television segments. The meeting is expected to provide an opportunity to explain the elements of the fiscal 2027 plan that Feltheimer said came together during the quarter. Management also said it had extended its growth visibility to fiscal 2028 and 2029. The available data did not include the stock’s opening price or session high and low on November 4.
