Extreme Networks shares jumped nearly 17% on Friday, November 6, 2026, after Reuters reported that the networking software and equipment company was exploring a potential sale following interest from buyers. The company is working with an investment bank on the process, the news agency said. The report puts the move at the option-exploration stage, with no announcement of an agreement or completed deal. Reuters valued the company at about $3 billion at the time of publication. The stock had closed at $21.05 in the November 5 session, according to EL7 data.

Reuters reported, citing its sources, that potential strategic buyers could include Fortinet, Cisco Systems and NetApp. Neither the company nor those parties confirmed any bids or binding negotiations: Extreme Networks and NetApp declined to comment, while Fortinet and Cisco did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Extreme Networks is headquartered in Morrisville, North Carolina, and provides software and equipment that help organizations manage wired and wireless networks. This business gives the company a presence in the network infrastructure sector, where major deals are taking place as technology companies expand their artificial intelligence and networking capabilities. Reuters reported that Hewlett Packard Enterprise closed its acquisition of Juniper Networks for $14 billion in 2025.

The sale report follows quarterly results showing year-over-year increases in revenue and net income. In the first fiscal quarter ended September 30, 2026, the company reported revenue of $341.1 million, compared with $310.2 million in the same period of the previous fiscal year. Net income was $16 million, up from $5.6 million a year earlier. The company said revenue grew 10% year over year, marking its seventh consecutive quarter of double-digit annual growth. Subscription and support revenue also rose to $122.8 million from $116.2 million, while the GAAP operating margin increased to 6.8% from 3.6%.

The company pointed to growth in its software and subscription business, with software-as-a-service annual recurring revenue (SaaS ARR) accelerating 22% year over year in the first quarter. The chief financial officer attributed the growth to customer adoption of Extreme Platform ONE. The chief executive said platform bookings exceeded 50% of subscription bookings and were five times their level a year earlier. In a previous statement reported by Reuters, the company said fiscal 2026 revenue grew 13% and the platform accounted for more than 30% of subscription bookings in its first year on the market. These indicators provide context for business performance ahead of the search for buyers, without establishing a causal link between growth and the sale option.

At September 30, 2026, the balance sheet showed cash and cash equivalents of $244.5 million and total debt of $200 million, giving the company net cash of $44.5 million. It also repurchased $25 million of shares during the quarter, equal to 844,131 shares at an average price of $29.62 per share. For the second quarter of fiscal 2027, ending December 31, 2026, the company is targeting revenue of between $345.8 million and $350.8 million and GAAP earnings per share of between $0.19 and $0.22. For the fiscal year ending June 30, 2027, it expects revenue of between $1,402.3 million and $1,412.3 million and earnings per share of between $0.77 and $0.83. The chief financial officer said the company expects to sustain its level of growth during the fiscal year, and that supply-chain measures allow for more targeted pricing adjustments while offsetting additional supply costs.
