Egypt’s net international reserves reached $57.5 billion at the end of October 2026, a record high, Arab Finance reported, citing data from the Central Bank of Egypt. The figure was above $57.35 billion at the end of September, according to the published month-on-month comparison. This points to an increase in the reserve balance during the month, though the monthly figures in the report are rounded. Arab Finance also reported that total official reserves stood at $57.502 billion in October. The total was $50.074 billion in October 2025, according to the same source.

Published reserve components included an increase in the value of gold reserves to $16.843 billion in October 2026, from $16.545 billion in the same month of 2025, Arab Finance reported. Egypt’s holdings of special drawing rights also reached $599 million in October, compared with $179 million in October 2025. The annual comparison shows changes in two reserve components, alongside growth in total official reserves reported by the source. The data in the report do not attribute the monthly increase to specific inflows from tourism, exports, investment or remittances from Egyptians. Nor do they include an assessment by the central bank of the reading’s effect on currency stability or the external position.

The October reading comes as Egypt’s program with the International Monetary Fund remains under review. The fund said the 46-month Extended Fund Facility arrangement, approved on December 16, 2022, was extended through December 15, 2026. That date marks the end of the extended arrangement, according to the fund’s statement, but does not by itself establish that all of Egypt’s commitments to the fund will end. At a press briefing on October 1, the fund said the latest review of the arrangement and the third review under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility were scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026. It added that completing both reviews could make about $2.3 billion in financing available to Egypt.

In a review announced in July 2026, the fund said Egypt’s real gross domestic product grew 5% in the third quarter of fiscal year 2025/26 and 5.2% in the first nine months of the fiscal year. The fund estimated economic growth at 4.4% in fiscal year 2026/27. It also said gross international reserves were expected to remain well above 100% of its reserve adequacy metric and generally consistent with previous projections. These estimates place the reserve reading within the fund’s broader monitoring of the Egyptian economy. The fund briefing lists the next reviews as scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.
