AGF Nitrogen has begun shutting down fertilizer and ammonia production lines across Europe due to a sharp increase in natural gas prices and weakening market demand. UkrAgroConsult reported that the company's plants are currently operating at 80–85% capacity, which represents the minimum technically viable operating level. Industrial ammonia consumption has declined by approximately 50%, rendering full-scale production economically unviable under current conditions.

The company has already shuttered one production line in France and is operating another intermittently, while CEO Petr Cingr warned that additional capacity could be closed in the coming weeks unless market conditions improve. AGF Nitrogen is facing significant margin compression as European gas prices reached approximately €90/MWh on November 4, 2026, nearly triple the levels seen before February 2022. To mitigate high feedstock costs, the firm has started replacing domestic ammonia production with imports at facilities located near seaports.
