Mitsui first-half profit jumps 35.7% to 574.9 billion yen
Key Facts
Mitsui said on November 4, 2026, that net profit attributable to owners of the parent for the first half of its fiscal year rose to 574.9 billion yen, up 35.7% year on year. Results for the six months ended September 30 showed profit of 423.6 billion yen in the year-earlier period, an increase of 151.3 billion yen. The company said in its results presentation that first-half profit reached a record level. The announcement was made as scheduled at 12:00 Japan time. Profit growth accompanied a decline in operating cash flow, while the company raised its forecasts for the fiscal year ending in March 2027.
Cash flow from operating activities was 223.4 billion yen in the first half, compared with 428.7 billion yen a year earlier. Mitsui attributed the decline to an increase in working capital, particularly higher trade receivables. At the same time, core operating cash flow rose to 511.6 billion yen from 448.5 billion yen in the comparable period, an annual increase of 63.1 billion yen. The company said the increase included contributions from the energy, mineral resources and metals segments. The contrast puts the reported decline in operating cash flow alongside growth in core cash flow, whose increase was linked to the performance of specific segments.
Mitsui raised its forecast for net profit attributable to owners of the parent for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027, to 1.05 trillion yen. It also increased its forecast for core operating cash flow to 1.12 trillion yen. The company said it raised its full-year forecasts for both profit and core cash flow. The forecasts follow record first-half profit, according to its presentation, and a year-on-year increase in core cash flow. The company attributed the decline in cash flow from operating activities to changes in working capital, particularly trade receivables.
Mitsui said its chemicals, iron and steel, mineral resources, mobility, digital and infrastructure segments performed well in the first half. The company planned to pay annual dividends of 140 yen per share for the fiscal year ending in March 2027. The expected payout includes an interim dividend of 70 yen per share and a final dividend of 70 yen. In the market, MITSY closed at $623.41 on November 3, within a trading range of $607.64 to $635.00 during the session. The stock closed at $647.66 on October 29, while the Nikkei 225 fell 3.6% to 60,835.36 points on November 4, its lowest level since early May.
