Lancashire Holdings announced on November 4 a special distribution to shareholders totaling about $182 million, equivalent to 75 cents per ordinary share. The company said the distribution will be paid in pounds sterling on December 11 to shareholders on its register on November 13, 2026. The announcement coincided with results for the nine months ended September 30, which showed insurance revenue rising as gross written premiums edged lower. Gross written premiums totaled $1.806 billion, down 1.1% from the corresponding period in 2025. The company said, however, that premiums were broadly stable after excluding reinsurance premiums related to the California wildfires in the previous year.

By contrast, insurance revenue rose 0.7% to $1.4097 billion over the same period. This came as insurance segment revenue increased 2.5%, alongside a 1.3% decline in reinsurance revenue. Gross written premiums comprised $836.5 million for the insurance segment, up 5.3% from the corresponding period in 2025, and $969.5 million for the reinsurance segment, down 6%. The group’s renewal price index was 93% for the nine months. The indicators show a divergence between growth in insurance activity and a decline in reinsurance premiums, while total premiums remained close to their previous level on the adjusted basis specified by the company.

Chief Executive Alex Maloney attributed insurance growth mainly to energy and marine business, and to the expansion of the company’s U.S. platform. He said the company also plans to reduce inward property reinsurance. Assessing the market, Maloney said pricing had moderated in some parts but remained adequate across a large portion of the group’s business. This reflects the company’s continued selection of underwriting opportunities based on pricing adequacy, while allocating capital across its segments. The statement did not forecast an increase in market competition over the next year.

The company described the loss environment in the third quarter of 2026 as relatively limited, citing few catastrophe events during the period. It said its exposure to the conflict in the Middle East was limited and within its risk appetite. On investments, the portfolio posted a total return of 0.6% in the first nine months of the year, while investment income contributed a 3.3% return. The unrealized impact of higher Treasury yields and a limited widening in credit spreads offset part of the return. The portfolio’s market yield was 5.3% on September 30, 2026, compared with 4.5% on the corresponding date a year earlier.

Investments under management stood at $3.1731 billion on September 30, 2026, compared with $3.3165 billion a year earlier. Maloney said the company was heading into 2027 from a position of strength, citing its product diversity and geographic reach. He added that this diversity gives the group flexibility to direct its risk appetite and capital toward the areas with the most attractive returns. This places the operating results, investment performance and special distribution in the context of the company’s direction for the coming year. The distribution is due to be paid on December 11, following the shareholder record date of November 13.
