Estée Lauder announced its fiscal 2030 financial targets at its Capital Markets Day in Shanghai, drawing on its “Beauty Reimagined” vision and “One ELC” model. The company is targeting an adjusted operating margin of 16.5% to 18.5% that year, compared with guidance of 12.9% to 13.8% for fiscal 2027, according to a Reuters report. The targets put profitability at the forefront of its long-term plan, alongside sales growth. Chief Executive Stéphane de La Faverie said the company is “entering a new chapter, moving beyond restoring growth to accelerating sustainable, profitable growth and creating long-term value.” The description reflects a shift in focus from restoring growth to accelerating it while improving its quality and profitability.

The long-term targets build on improved quarterly results: net sales in the first quarter of fiscal 2027 were about $3.715 billion, compared with $3.481 billion in the corresponding period of fiscal 2026, an increase of 7% year over year. Organic sales, which exclude the effect of certain factors, rose 6% to $3.696 billion, compared with $3.480 billion a year earlier. Adjusted operating margin also climbed to 12.1% from 7.3% in the first quarter of the previous fiscal year. The company attributed the margin expansion to operating leverage and an improved gross margin. These figures provide context for management’s 2030 target, with the first-quarter margin still below the range targeted for that year.

Category growth varied in the first quarter of fiscal 2027, with fragrance outperforming the other businesses. Organic fragrance sales rose 20%, compared with growth of 4% in skin care and 1% in makeup, while hair care recorded no organic growth. The differences highlight the varying contributions of brands and categories to the overall improvement in sales. In China, the company said it expects strong organic sales growth from new and existing products following increased consumer-facing investment. This strategy links growth opportunities there to expanded customer-focused spending and sales from its existing product portfolio and new launches.

Estée Lauder raised its fiscal 2027 outlook, targeting organic sales growth of 4.0% to 5.5%, compared with the previous range of 3% to 5%. The new lower bound is above the previous floor, while the new upper bound exceeds the prior ceiling. The company said the increase in sales in the first half of the fiscal year is expected to be greater than in the second half. It linked this trajectory to more product launches earlier in the fiscal year, improving travel retail trends and a lower prior-year comparison base. The updated guidance places the current year’s trajectory in the context of the 2030 plan, with stronger growth expected at the start of the fiscal year than at the end.
