CrowdStrike Signs Deal to Acquire Dreadnode, Plans More Than 100 Attack Tests
Key Facts
CrowdStrike said on 3 November 2026 that it had signed a definitive agreement to acquire Dreadnode, which specializes in automated AI security testing, in a move aimed at expanding the Falcon platform’s ability to detect vulnerabilities before systems are deployed. The company said Dreadnode will add continuous testing of AI models, applications and agents to the platform. The announcement comes as CrowdStrike says organizations are deploying AI faster than they can prove it is secure. Chief Executive George Kurtz said: "Organizations are deploying AI faster than they can prove it is secure." The proposed deal remains subject to customary closing conditions, and the company is targeting completion in the fourth quarter of its fiscal 2027.
According to CrowdStrike, the testing system will run more than 100 known attack strategies against AI systems. These include model jailbreaks, prompt injection, multi-turn attacks and attacks designed to target agents. The scope of testing, the statement said, extends to the models themselves, agents’ reasoning loops, applications and MCP servers that run AI systems in enterprises. The company says testing will take place before deployment, allowing relevant teams to look for vulnerabilities across the system’s different components. This scope reflects the deal’s focus on testing AI components in an enterprise environment, rather than models alone.
CrowdStrike says test results will be ranked by severity and then mapped to cybersecurity and AI frameworks and standards. Those cited include OWASP’s Top 10 risks for large language models, OWASP Agentic Security standards AS01 to AS10, as well as MITRE ATLAS and the NIST AI RMF framework. The company said the outputs will include exportable reports to support pre-deployment decisions. This mapping places test results within reference frameworks that organizations use to classify and review risks. CrowdStrike aims to make automated AI security testing generally available in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2027.
CrowdStrike did not disclose a purchase price in its statement, but said the consideration is intended to be paid mostly in cash, with a portion delivered in shares and subject to vesting conditions. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2027, subject to customary closing conditions. The company said the Dreadnode team will join its Cyber Superintelligence Lab, strengthening its team of AI security researchers. The company is linking the addition of testing tools with an expansion of its base of researchers specializing in the field. Product availability and completion of the acquisition remain tied to the timeline and conditions announced by the company.
Dreadnode describes on its website red-team testing for AI systems that ranges, in its words, from traditional machine-learning models to multi-agent systems. In research published on 3 August 2026, the company said it tested 8 language-model judges across 4,897 calls to offensive-security tools. Dreadnode announced on 25 February 2025 that it had raised $14 million in a Series A funding round led by Decibel, with participation from Next Frontier Capital, In-Q-Tel, Sands Capital and Indie VC. The company said it was founded in 2023 by Will Pearce and Nick Landers, and that 15 employees had joined it in the year before the funding round was announced. At the time of the funding announcement, it described its tools as including Strikes for security assessments, Spyglass for testing systems for vulnerabilities, and Crucible, an AI penetration-testing training environment.
The deal follows CrowdStrike’s earlier expansion into AI security solutions; the company acquired Pangea on 26 September 2025, a provider of AI detection and response solutions. CrowdStrike said in its annual report that the Pangea deal had no material effect on its consolidated financial statements. Against a backdrop of financial growth, the company posted revenue of $1.47 billion in the second quarter of fiscal 2027, up 26% from the same period in the previous fiscal year. Annual recurring revenue reached $5.84 billion as of 31 July 2026, up 25% year over year, and the company added $332.8 million in annual recurring revenue during the quarter. The company raised its fiscal 2027 net new annual recurring revenue growth outlook to 34% at the midpoint, citing second-quarter results and strength in its third-quarter deal pipeline.
