ADNOC Gas to Supply TotalEnergies Up to 1.6 Million Tonnes Over Five Years

Key Facts

1A five-year supply agreement for a total volume of up to 1.6 million tonnes of LNG.
2Initial deliveries are expected to begin in 2026.
3ADNOC’s platform aims to market and trade 47 million tonnes annually by 2030.
4The International Energy Agency expects about 300 billion cubic metres a year of LNG export capacity to be added by 2030.

ADNOC Gas and TotalEnergies announced on November 3, 2026, a five-year liquefied natural gas supply agreement for a total volume of up to 1.6 million tonnes. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2026, according to TotalEnergies’ announcement. The volume is a total ceiling for the contract term and does not indicate annual supply at that level. Stéphane Michel, President of Gas, Renewables & Power at TotalEnergies, said, "This new supply will enable TotalEnergies to reaffirm its position as one of the leading suppliers to LNG portfolios." The company added that the location of the supplies between Europe and Asia supports that position.

The new agreement follows a previous supply arrangement between ADNOC Gas and TotalEnergies Gas and Power, announced by the Emirati company in May 2023. The previous contract ran for three years, with deliveries expected to begin in 2023 and continue through 2025. The new agreement thus follows an existing supply relationship between the parties, with a stated contractual term of five years. Fatima Al Nuaimi, CEO of ADNOC Gas, said the agreement "underscores the strength of our LNG business and the competitiveness of our supply offerings." ADNOC Gas also describes TotalEnergies as a shareholder and strategic partner.

ADNOC Gas places the contract within its efforts to expand LNG marketing and trading through a platform that brings together the marketing activities of ADNOC and XRG with ADNOC Trading’s trading capabilities. The platform aims to market and trade 47 million tonnes annually by 2030, a platform target that does not represent the volume of the TotalEnergies contract. The company says it supplies about 60% of the UAE’s sales gas needs, while its products reach end customers in more than 20 countries. Al Nuaimi said the agreement reflects the competitiveness of the company’s offerings and its ability to form long-term partnerships. This activity combines meeting part of the UAE market’s needs with reaching buyers in overseas markets.

TotalEnergies says it sold 44 million tonnes of LNG in 2025 and has regasification capacity in Europe of about 20 million tonnes annually. These figures put the agreement in the context of the company’s LNG trading and receiving activity in the European market. The announcement did not specify how much the contract would add to its sales or to the use of its regasification capacity. The announced volume, of up to 1.6 million tonnes, remains spread over the five-year contract term. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2026.

The agreement comes as the International Energy Agency expects a significant expansion in LNG supply. The agency estimates that about 300 billion cubic metres a year of new LNG export capacity will be added globally by 2030. On the demand side, it expects global growth at an annual rate of about 1.5% between 2024 and 2030, equivalent to a cumulative increase of 380 billion cubic metres by 2030. It expects Asia-Pacific to account for about half of the increase in demand. In the nearer term, the Gas 2025 report forecast global demand growth slowing from 2.8% in 2024 to less than 1% in 2025, with demand in the Asian region growing by less than 1% in 2025 compared with 2024.

The agreement coincides with ADNOC Gas’s development of the Ruwais LNG project, which has planned capacity of 9.6 million tonnes annually. The company’s report said more than 90% of this capacity was contracted under long-term sales agreements within 18 months of the final investment decision. The project is targeting the start of commissioning by the end of 2028. This is a separate route for expanding ADNOC Gas’s capacity to produce and supply LNG. The TotalEnergies agreement, meanwhile, remains announced at a total volume of up to 1.6 million tonnes over five years, with deliveries expected to begin in 2026.
