Lookonchain tracked an address that bought 3,052 ZEC on the spot market for about $3.8 million and simultaneously opened a 2x leveraged long position of 8,000 units, with notional value of about $10.16 million. The move comes ahead of NU7’s activation on the mainnet, scheduled for November 5, 2026, in the Zcash community plan. The figures show that the derivatives position’s value is notional and does not mean the full amount was paid to buy the cryptocurrency; the spot purchase alone was estimated at about $3.8 million. The upgrade entered the test network on October 6. The bet thus combines a spot holding with a leveraged long position ahead of an anticipated technical change to the network.

NU7 aims to reduce the interval between blocks from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, cutting the average user wait for the first confirmation to about one-third, according to the Zcash Foundation. That shortens confirmation wait times, but by itself does not establish that the overall transaction processing rate will triple. On throughput, the foundation says the new limits raise Orchard transaction capacity from 2.9 to 6.6 transactions per second. They also reduce by about 37% the worst-case range for light-wallet synchronization that a spam sender could impose. These changes offer specific operational gains in confirmation time, Orchard throughput and wallet synchronization.

The upgrade leaves unchanged the four-year halving schedule and the supply cap of 21 million ZEC, according to the Zcash Foundation. But maintaining the scheduled daily issuance does not mean the block reward stays the same; it is reduced to one-third to offset the higher block frequency as the interval between blocks shrinks. NU7 also changes fee distribution: 60% of each block’s fees go to a reserve, while miners retain 40%. On the mainnet, reissuance of part of the reserve begins at block height 8,939,664. The mechanism links the higher block frequency to an adjustment in the block reward, while allocating a share of fees to the reserve and reissuing part of it according to plan.

The update also requires node operators to prepare: the Zcash Foundation announced the release of Zebra 7.0.0 as the first stable release to support NU7 on the mainnet. The foundation said node operators must upgrade before activation to avoid following a different chain after NU7 rules take effect. As for balances, version 4 transactions become invalid after activation, according to the foundation. Because Sprout pool transfers use only this version, funds left in it will become unspendable. That makes moving any remaining Sprout balances before activation a direct operational matter for holders, alongside upgrading their nodes.

EL7 closing data show volatile moves in the final days of October and early November. ZEC closed at $1,311.01 on October 28, then fell to $1,223 on October 29, before reaching $1,261.98 on November 2. Investing.com data show sharp daily moves over the same period: a 7.20% decline on October 22, a 6.21% gain on October 27, and a 6.76% drop on October 29. These readings reflect price volatility ahead of the upgrade and do not establish a sustained upward trend or a pattern of higher lows. The next date set in the community plan remains mainnet activation on November 5, 2026.
