Stellantis said a shortage at one of its suppliers of a component for the N3 GSE engine control unit caused major production disruptions for some Fiat models. In a company statement cited by Dow Jones Newswires, the problem reduced component availability and directly affected the brand’s volumes and market share in October. The impact also extended to the year-to-date total, according to the company, with a notable effect on the Fiat Pandina. The company did not identify the missing component as a semiconductor, contrary to wording in an earlier version of the report. It said the effects of the problem could continue through November and December, potentially extending its impact beyond the October disruptions.

The impact is concentrated at the Pomigliano d’Arco and Mirafiori sites, according to Stellantis’ statement, including in connection with Fiat 500 production. Temporary production cuts could also extend to other Italian group sites that produce engine components. The company said those sites may need to suspend operations temporarily, without specifying the number of facilities or the duration of any stoppage. The potential breadth of the impact means the problem is not limited to finished-vehicle production at one site. However, the company described continued repercussions over the next two months as a possibility, not as confirmation that production would stop through the end of December.

The Fiat Pandina led sales in the Italian market during the first nine months of the year, according to the company statement, which said it had an undisputed lead in sales over that period. That commercial performance puts the component shortage’s impact on a prominent brand model, after Stellantis said the repercussions were particularly significant for the Pandina. The company acknowledged that the problem affected Fiat’s volumes and market share in October, as well as year-to-date figures. The statement gave no figures specifying the extent of the decline in volumes or market share. Stellantis and Fiat said they were working with the highest priority to find alternative solutions and gradually restore normal operations.

The disruptions come as Stellantis’ consolidated shipments in the third quarter fell 1% year on year to 1.286 million units. In Enlarged Europe, shipments rose 10% to 588 thousand units, while North American shipments fell 12% to 357 thousand, according to company data. Stellantis attributed the growth in European shipments to electric vehicles and said models on the Smart Car platform contributed about 26 thousand units to growth in shipments across its brands. The company’s revenue also rose 1% year on year to 37.6 billion euros in the third quarter. Stellantis said it expected consolidated shipments in the fourth quarter of 2026 to be higher than in the third quarter, while also saying the component shortage could continue to affect some production operations.

Italian manufacturing data point to broader sector pressures, though sources did not directly link them to the Stellantis problem. The purchasing managers’ index showed manufacturing activity contracted unexpectedly in October, while orders and output declined, according to a report cited by Reuters. The report said input prices reached their highest levels in four months and output prices their highest in three months, amid recurring supply-chain disruptions it attributed to the conflict in the Middle East. In separate data, Italy’s statistical institute said consumer prices rose 5.4% year on year in October, compared with 4.2% in September, and increased 0.9% month on month. Italian gross domestic product was unchanged in the third quarter from the previous quarter, the institute said.

EL7 data showed Stellantis shares, listed under the ticker STLA, closed at 4.64 dollars on October 30, 2026. Available data do not include the session’s high and low share prices. On production, the company said it was working to identify alternative solutions to gradually restore normal operations. November and December remain the period during which the effects of the component shortage could continue, particularly at Pomigliano d’Arco and Mirafiori. As for shipments, Stellantis expects consolidated totals to rise in the fourth quarter compared with the third quarter.
