Kosmos Energy Revenue Rises to $409.88 Million in Third Quarter
Key Facts
Kosmos Energy reported total revenues and other income of $409.88 million in the third quarter of 2026, compared with $311.229 million in the same period of 2025. Net production rose to an average of approximately 69,200 barrels of oil equivalent per day, in line with the company’s guidance. But results included a net loss of $43 million, or $0.07 per diluted share. On an adjusted basis, the company reported net income of $35 million, or $0.06 per diluted share. Estimates published before the announcement pointed to earnings of $0.1128 per share and revenue of $422.86 million, putting actual revenue below that estimate.
Average net production increased about 6% from the third quarter of 2025, and the increase was about 17% excluding Equatorial Guinea. In the second quarter of 2026, production had reached approximately 71,400 barrels of oil equivalent per day, up about 12% year over year. That means the quarterly average declined from the previous quarter, while remaining above its level a year earlier. The chief executive said the company’s priorities include “increasing production, reducing costs, cutting debt and advancing high-quality growth opportunities.” He added that the 2025/26 Jubilee drilling campaign had completed seven successful wells.
Net cash from operating activities was approximately $164 million in the third quarter, while free cash flow reached approximately $90 million. The company said this marked three consecutive quarters of positive free cash flow, totaling $193 million year to date. In the second quarter, free cash flow was approximately $89 million and contributed to a reduction of more than $400 million in net debt during the first half. These figures put cash generation and reducing liabilities at the core of the company’s performance, alongside revenue and production growth. Kosmos ended the third quarter with net debt of approximately $2.47 billion and liquidity of approximately $570 million.
The company expects net debt to fall below $2.4 billion by the end of 2026, with leverage approaching 2.0 times. Net capital expenditure was $85 million in the third quarter, in line with guidance, while the company kept its fiscal 2026 spending estimate at approximately $350 million. That guidance was also unchanged in the second-quarter results announcement. In October, the company amended and extended its reserve-based lending facility, increasing its size and commitments to $1.2 billion and extending final maturity to April 2033. No amortization payments are planned until 2031, extending the financing runway as the company focuses on reducing debt.
Asset performance varies, with total production growth at Jubilee and stability at the GTA project, while the announced operational outlook cited the impact of maintenance and expected operational issues in the Gulf of America during the fourth quarter. The company’s second-quarter plan targeted increasing total Jubilee production to more than 90,000 barrels of oil per day after a new well came online. The company also pushed back its previous estimate for starting to drill the Trailblazer well from the first quarter to the first half of 2027. The well is the first exploration project under the alliance with Shell, and the project’s gross resource is estimated at approximately 200 million barrels of oil equivalent. Kosmos shares closed at $2.85 on October 30, 2026.
Kosmos is scheduled to hold a call to discuss its third-quarter results on November 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Central Time, or 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time. The call will follow the company’s announcement that it maintained its annual capital spending guidance at approximately $350 million and expects to reduce net debt to below $2.4 billion by year-end. It will also provide an opportunity to discuss production plans, cost reductions, debt reduction and growth opportunities cited by the chief executive. Investors are watching for details on executing those priorities given the decline in production from the previous quarter’s average, while it remains above its level a year earlier. The third-quarter results remain a mix of revenue and cash flow growth and an accounting net loss.
