init cuts 2026 earnings forecast after quarterly EBIT falls to 1.6 million euros
Key Facts
init innovation in traffic systems cut its 2026 forecast for earnings before interest and taxes after reporting preliminary third-quarter earnings of 1.6 million euros, compared with 8.7 million euros in the same period of 2025. The company said in a disclosure published via EQS that third-quarter results contributed to a revision in the outlook that was smaller than expected. The figures showed a divergence between revenue growth and declining earnings, as quarterly sales rose while EBIT fell. The company cut its forecasts for all three operating units but kept its annual revenue and operating cash flow estimates at their previous levels. The revision highlights the effect of weak third-quarter profitability on the outlook for the rest of the year, despite revenue expansion in the first nine months.
Group revenue was 91.6 million euros in the third quarter of 2026, up from 85.1 million a year earlier, but EBIT fell in the same period to 1.6 million euros from 8.7 million. For the first nine months, revenue rose 29% to 292.6 million euros from 226.9 million through September 30, 2025. By contrast, EBIT for the period was 14.0 million euros, compared with 15.2 million in the same period of the previous year. The comparison shows that revenue growth was not accompanied by an improvement in operating earnings, either in the third quarter or across the nine-month period. These preliminary third-quarter figures were included in the company's disclosure, which also showed a decline in operating cash flow through the end of September.
init attributed the forecast cut to the lower-than-expected contribution from third-quarter results and to heightened geopolitical risks in the Middle East and their potential effects on oil prices and market demand. The company also cited increasing constraints on the availability of materials from third parties. The disclosure linked the decline in demand particularly to additional short-term orders with high margins, a category that affects the business's contribution to earnings. The company said it did not expect the fourth quarter to offset the weak third quarter with the exceptional strength seen in previous years. The revision is therefore based on the weak third-quarter contribution and the risks identified by the company, alongside its expectation that the unusually strong seasonal pattern will not recur at year-end.
The cut covered all three business units. The 2026 EBIT forecast for Integrated Systems is now between 32 and 34 million euros, compared with 34 to 36 million previously. The range for Cloud Solutions was cut to 4–6 million euros from 5–7 million, while the range for Passenger Intelligence is now between 5 and 7 million euros, versus 7–9 million previously. These adjustments lower the expected earnings range for each unit, with the size of the change varying across units. The disclosure did not change the group's annual revenue range or its operating cash flow estimate, leaving the earnings update confined to unit-level EBIT forecasts within the announced figures.
The company reaffirmed its 2026 group revenue forecast of between 380 and 410 million euros and kept its operating cash flow forecast between 32 and 38 million euros. However, actual operating cash flow through September 30 was 6.7 million euros, compared with 33.3 million in the same period of 2025. init said it expected a significant improvement in the fourth quarter, driven by advance payments for major projects and the collection of outstanding receivables. This outlook comes as the company no longer expects exceptional fourth-quarter earnings strength to offset the weak third quarter. The annual cash flow estimate therefore remained unchanged despite the gap recorded in the first nine months, relying on the expected improvement from the payments and collections cited by the company.
In the context of German economic data, the Federal Statistical Office, Destatis, said on November 2 that real retail sales in September fell 2.0% compared with August and 2.3% year on year. By contrast, nominal sales rose 1.2% compared with September 2025. These figures relate to Germany's retail sector, while init attributed its forecast revision to its quarterly results and risks involving the Middle East, oil, demand and material availability. The company set November 12, 2026, as the date for publishing its third-quarter interim statement, the next announced date for presenting its results.
