Graphite One Secures Final Environmental Permit for Ohio Battery Anode Plant
Key Facts
Graphite One received the final air permit from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency for its planned active anode material facility in Conneaut. The company stated via PR Newswire that the permit is the critical regulatory milestone required to begin construction on the Phase 1 plant, which features a 10,000-tonne-per-year capacity. First sales of synthetic graphite anode material are currently targeted for the fourth quarter of 2028.
The Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) issued an amended non-binding Letter of Interest for $1.4 billion to support the facility, bringing total potential EXIM support for the project to $2.07 billion. Under the terms of the permit issued on October 27, 2026, construction must commence within 18 months. This development aligns with the company's efforts to establish a domestic U.S. graphite supply chain for electric vehicle batteries and energy storage systems.
