Aramco acquires 49% of Humain with cash contribution of 9.9 billion riyals
Key Facts
Aramco and the Public Investment Fund announced on 1 November 2026 that they had closed a deal under which Aramco, through a wholly owned subsidiary, acquires 49% of Humain, while the fund retains a 51% stake. The deal concerns the existing company and does not create a new joint entity. Aramco's contribution includes transferring key AI, computing and digital assets to Humain. Aramco will also inject about 9.9 billion riyals, equivalent to 2.6 billion dollars, in cash during 2026. This places the cash contribution alongside the transferred technology assets as part of an investment broader than the cash amount alone.
Humain targets deploying 3 gigawatts of AI data center capacity by 2030 to keep pace with regional and global demand for computing. Aramco said the company's expansion aims to meet this growing demand for the computing capabilities required by AI applications. The capacity target is part of an investment combining cash funding with assets transferred by Aramco. The 2030 date is the stated horizon for deploying the capacity, while the deal announcement did not set out a phased timetable for adding it. Humain is building its operations across four core areas, including next-generation data centers, high-performance infrastructure and cloud platforms.
The four areas also include advanced models, including the Allam model, and applied AI solutions. Aramco says providing Humain with infrastructure will help it deploy AI in industrial applications. The company added that the partnership creates opportunities for revenue growth and attractive margins. Aramco said the partnership "is expected to enhance returns from its existing AI and digital assets." This reflects the company's effort to expand the commercial use of its technology assets, alongside the transfer of assets and a cash contribution to Humain.
Aramco's technology track record provides context for the investment: its chief executive said the company had realized 11.3 billion dollars in technology value since 2023. He said a large part of that value came from AI solutions. In its 2025 annual report, Aramco said its high-density AI computing capacity had exceeded 570 petaflops. The capacity was ten times its level in the previous year, according to the report. These figures provide context for Aramco's use of computing infrastructure and industrial applications in its partnership with Humain.
The deal's closing followed Aramco and the fund's signing of a non-binding term sheet on 28 October 2025, which stipulated that definitive agreements and regulatory approvals be secured and customary conditions be met. Humain was launched on 12 May 2025 as a fund-owned company operating across the AI value chain. That chain includes data centers, infrastructure, cloud, models and solutions. The closing moves the relationship between Aramco and Humain from the term-sheet stage to a publicly announced ownership, asset and funding contribution. An upcoming date related to Aramco is the broadcast of its third-quarter results call on 3 November 2026 at 11 a.m. Riyadh time.
