Samsung Hosts Altman with 50 Executives to Discuss AI’s Impact on Business
Key Facts
Samsung hosted OpenAI CEO Sam Altman on October 31, 2026, at its Human Resources Development Center in Yongin, with about 50 executives from its electronics, finance and bioscience units participating, according to Samsung Newsroom Korea. The meeting focused on AI’s impact on corporate management and the business opportunities that may emerge as the technology develops. According to The Korea Herald, discussions covered how AI could change decision-making and corporate management. Participants also examined the leadership skills companies will need in a changing business environment. The meeting statement did not announce a new chip production partnership, as its stated focus was corporate transformation and AI applications.
Samsung titled the meeting “The Next Decade to Be Changed by AI: Corporate Choices” and said the discussion covered markets and business opportunities that may take shape as technology advances. The title linked the discussion to companies’ decisions in the coming period, rather than details of new chip manufacturing. The Korea Herald reported that participants examined AI’s role in corporate decision-making and organizational management. Discussions also addressed the leadership capabilities executives will need as the business environment changes. The meeting thus examined how AI could be incorporated into management practices and work within companies.
The October meeting was Samsung’s second intensive AI training program for senior executives, following an initial session held in June, The Korea Herald reported. The newspaper said the group had trained about 2,300 executives since June. Samsung aims to complete AI training for all employees by February 2027. The program places leadership training within a broader internal effort to spread knowledge of tools and applications among employees. Altman’s discussion with senior executives came amid this focus on the technology’s effect on corporate decisions and management, as well as the business opportunities it could create.
The meeting comes as Samsung and OpenAI have an earlier announced collaboration on AI infrastructure. In October 2025, Samsung Electronics and OpenAI signed a letter of intent to cooperate on global AI infrastructure, including plans to supply advanced memory chips for the Stargate project, The Korea Herald reported. OpenAI said Samsung and SK hynix aim to raise advanced memory chip production to 900,000 DRAM wafer starts per month under the project plans. The company said further details on the scope of the collaboration would be announced as plans progress. The agreement provides existing context for the relationship between the parties, but is separate from the October meeting, which focused on corporate transformation and business opportunities.
Previous areas of cooperation have expanded to include other companies in the Samsung Group. Samsung SDS agreed to explore developing AI data centers and enterprise AI services, while Samsung C&T and Samsung Heavy Industries continued developing offshore floating data centers. In June 2026, OpenAI announced that it was making ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex available to all Samsung Electronics employees in Korea and to Device eXperience division employees worldwide. OpenAI described the expansion as one of its largest enterprise deployments. These initiatives add an operational dimension to the existing collaboration, spanning enterprise services and data centers to making AI tools available to employees.
These moves come as Samsung directs substantial capital investment toward semiconductors and high-performance computing. The company said its capital expenditure reached 29 trillion won in the third quarter of 2026, and it expects full-year 2026 spending to total about 84.4 trillion won. It said semiconductor-sector investments are intended to meet demand for AI and high-performance computing. These figures provide context for the group’s continued expansion of the infrastructure needed for AI, alongside employee training programs and corporate collaboration. The next milestone Samsung announced for this internal effort is completing training for all employees by February 2027.
