JioStar’s Operating EBITDA Falls 10.5% to 1,372 Crore Rupees in Second Quarter
Key Facts
JioStar’s operating EBITDA fell 10.5% to 1,372 crore rupees in the second quarter of fiscal 2026-2027, Economic Times reported, citing Reuters. The operating EBITDA margin narrowed to 22.1%, compared with 28.1% in the same period of the previous fiscal year. The margin contracted 600 basis points year over year. The figures came as the company’s revenue grew, which it attributed to subscription performance and digital entertainment advertising. The company said revenue growth was achieved despite a weak advertising environment.
Total EBITDA, which includes investment income, was 1,502 crore rupees after declining 13.6% during the quarter. Investment income fell to 130 crore rupees from 205 crore rupees in the same period. Meanwhile, JioHotstar averaged about 440 million monthly active users, up 10% year over year. Viewing time for entertainment content also rose by more than 15%. The company said performance in Hindi-speaking Indian markets and regional markets supported the increase in viewing.
As it expanded beyond India, the company relaunched JioHotstar under its new brand in Singapore, the United Kingdom and Canada during September 2026. It said the number of active subscribers across the three markets had risen about 30% since the launch. The company said the six editions of “Bigg Boss” had collectively exceeded 90 million viewers on the platform during their first three weeks. It also said the “Pay via Someone Else” payment feature increased additional checkout starts by 10%. The company reported that connected-TV viewers consumed, on average, content equivalent to three times what mobile users watched.
JioHotstar’s sports portfolio during the quarter included the England-India series, Wimbledon 2026 and the 2026 US Open. The portfolio also included the first phase of the 2026-27 Premier League season. The company described the England-India series as the platform’s biggest bilateral series outside India. It cited these sporting events alongside subscription growth and digital viewing as factors in its account of activity during the quarter. The information provided did not include details on when the next results would be announced.
