Swisscom is reorganizing activities in its Business Customers segment, transferring AI, data, software and digital transformation consulting to Swisscom Digital Technology, an existing subsidiary, with about 570 employees moving to the unit. According to laRegione, citing AWP, the rest of the business unit will remain within Swisscom Business Customers. The separation is limited to specified consulting and technology activities and does not include the operation of AI platforms. The company said consolidating expertise aims to strengthen the group’s position and improve innovation, collaboration and customer support. The move redraws the boundaries of responsibilities within its business operations as the segment faces pressure on revenue and operating results.

Under the new structure, Swisscom Digital Technology will handle AI consulting, while operation of platforms related to the technology will remain with Swisscom Business Customers, according to TradeDirect, citing AWP. Under this arrangement, advice on AI applications will be separated from the platforms’ operational infrastructure. The transferred activities also include consulting in data, software and digital transformation. The Business Customers unit will continue to provide telephony, broadband, cloud computing, cybersecurity and IT outsourcing. Its areas of activity also include services for the finance, government, defense and digital infrastructure sectors, according to laRegione.

The transfer of about 570 employees to the subsidiary will directly affect staff, but Swisscom has not specified how many jobs could be affected by the restructuring. laRegione quoted a company spokesperson as saying the number remains unknown and that employees who may lose their jobs will be covered by a social plan. This comes as Swisscom expects its workforce in Switzerland to change annually through 2030 by a low single-digit percentage. The company did not provide a final figure for jobs to be eliminated as part of the process in the information cited. The scale of the employment impact therefore remains uncertain, despite the announcement of how many employees will move to the subsidiary.

The reorganization comes as revenue in the traditional business segment fell 0.8% to 1.5 billion Swiss francs in the first half of 2026. The segment’s EBITDAaL fell 1.3% to 586 million francs over the same period, according to figures reported by laRegione. At group level, Swisscom posted revenue of 7,221 million francs between January and June 2026, compared with 7,446 million in the corresponding period of 2025, a year-on-year decline of 3.0%. The results place the Business Customers unit within a broader picture of falling revenue, with declines in both the traditional segment’s revenue and its operating measure. In its first-half results, Swisscom said it expects group revenue of between 14.7 and 14.9 billion francs in fiscal 2026, and EBITDAaL of between 5.0 and 5.1 billion francs.

Data and AI consulting are among Swisscom’s priorities for 2026, alongside the expansion of its Swiss AI platform. The company described the platform as a single destination for AI solutions, providing services from consulting through operations. It also said its AI assistant is designed to manage internal knowledge, and that data is stored and processed entirely in its Swiss data centers. These initiatives illustrate AI’s role in the group’s strategy, with responsibilities split between consulting moving to the subsidiary and platform operations remaining in the customer unit. Swisscom will publish its third-quarter 2026 results on 5 November, the next financial milestone following the restructuring announcement.

SCMWY shares closed at $83.42 on 29 October 2026, according to EL7 data. The price data provided here do not include details on the day’s trading range. The close comes ahead of the third-quarter results announcement scheduled for 5 November, which will provide the group’s latest financial update after its first-half results. Swisscom maintained its full-year 2026 revenue and EBITDAaL outlook in those results. The announced redistribution of activities and employees remains the central operational change in the Business Customers segment.
