Key Facts
Ryerson reported net sales of $2.18 billion in the third quarter of 2026, up 8.6% from the previous quarter, according to the company’s results release published via PR Newswire. Net income attributable to the company was $32 million, or $0.61 per diluted share. Second-quarter net income was $15.5 million, with earnings per share of $0.30. The comparison puts the company’s performance above its stated range, not above documented analyst estimates.
Total shipments rose 1.2% quarter over quarter, exceeding the company’s earlier guidance for a seasonal decline of between 3% and 5%, executives said on the results call. Comparable shipments increased 1.8%, reaching their highest quarterly level in more than five years. The company said third-quarter demand was stronger than expected, while carbon steel prices continued to climb to levels not seen for several years. It attributed price support to trade policy, tight domestic supply, extended lead times and service-center inventories near multi-year lows. This mix supported demand and prices as shipments posted quarterly growth.
Data-center and power-generation projects stood out among infrastructure-related sources of demand, but accounted for about 7% of Ryerson’s revenue in the second quarter of 2026. Sales tied to those projects had risen about 30% quarter over quarter at the time. The CEO said quoting and order activity remained strong during the first month of the fourth quarter. He described the industrial economy as uneven, with strong growth in AI infrastructure, power, defense and aerospace. By contrast, activity remained softer in agriculture, consumer markets and interest-rate-sensitive sectors, the executive said.
Management expects shipments to decline between 6% and 8% in the fourth quarter compared with the third quarter, while average selling prices are expected to be flat or rise by up to 2%. The company estimated revenue of between $1.96 billion and $2.04 billion, and adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization excluding LIFO of between $100 million and $104 million. On dividends, the board on October 28, 2026, declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.1875 per share. The dividend is payable on December 17 to shareholders of record on December 3. RYZ shares closed at $31 on October 29, according to EL7 data.
