The Depository Trust Company (DTC), a subsidiary of DTCC, launched an asset tokenization service on October 28, 2026, and said 20 DTC participants had so far signed agreements to access it. The list includes banks, asset managers and brokers, while DTCC said other users would join in due course. The service enables tokenized representations of real-world assets held at DTC to be issued, then allows securities entitlements to be transferred between traditional and tokenized forms and delivered to digital wallets. The move is part of a shift to move financial assets from the traditional custody system into digital instruments that can be traded on blockchain networks. DTCC included Tradeweb among its collaborators and partners, alongside companies working in infrastructure, wallets, applications and digital assets.

DTCC said tokenized securities, or “digital replicas,” retain the same ownership rights, investor protections and economic entitlements as their traditional counterparts. This means the digital representation is linked to the asset held at DTC, while the financial and legal rights granted to its holder remain in place. The organization said the service aims to support more efficient movement of assets, provide access to new liquidity pools and mobilize collateral within minutes. These goals point to potential uses of the service in asset and collateral management, without guaranteeing outcomes. DTC holds more than 114 trillion dollars in assets in custody, a scale that places the new infrastructure within the organization’s broad custody and settlement system.

At launch, the service is integrated with the Canton network and DTCC’s Besu network, while the organization plans to add other blockchain networks in 2027. The current integration connects the service to more than one network, while the announced expansion next year represents a later step in developing its connectivity. DTCC’s list of partners, alongside Tradeweb, includes BitGo Bank & Trust, Blockdaemon, Broadridge, DFNS, DRW, Fireblocks, HIFI, Kaleido, Matter Labs, Ondo, Prometheum Capital, Talos, Taurus, Transcend and Virtu. The range of names reflects participation by entities from different areas of the ecosystem; the announcement does not describe Tradeweb as the lead partner. Among the uses DTCC has addressed in prior operations are cross-chain transfers, collateral pledges, stock transfers and delivery-versus-payment transactions involving U.S. Treasury and equity assets.

DTCC said the service was developed with contributions from more than 150 companies in DTC’s Digital Asset Solutions Working Group. This figure is distinct from the number of customers that signed agreements to access the service, which stood at 20 participants as of October 28. The launch was preceded by limited production operations conducted by DTCC and more than 30 companies, as well as multiple on-chain transactions, following roughly seven months after the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission issued a no-action letter. The letter was issued in December 2025 and authorized the tokenization of components of the Russell 1000 Index, exchange-traded funds tracking major indexes and U.S. Treasury securities. The regulatory framework also states that the pilot program will continue for three years after launch, according to the SEC’s letter regarding the DTC program.

Tradeweb shares closed at 119.67 dollars on October 27, 2026, the eve of the service launch announcement. The available information does not compare that close with the previous session or measure the announcement’s effect on the stock’s movement. The service gives participants a channel to access digital representations of assets held by DTC, while the rights and entitlements associated with traditional securities remain in place, according to DTCC. The organization plans to add other blockchain networks in 2027, after beginning integration with Canton and Besu. The pilot program will continue for three years from the launch date under the U.S. agency’s no-action letter.
