eBay reported gross merchandise volume of $23.166 billion on its platform in the third quarter ended September 30, 2026, up 15% from $20.105 billion in the same period last year. Revenue also grew, reaching $3.206 billion compared with $2.820 billion a year earlier, an increase of 14%. Diluted earnings per share were $1.51 on the company’s adjusted measure, topping analysts’ average estimate of $1.41, according to Investing.com. Revenue was about $3.2 billion, ahead of an estimate of $3.11 billion in the same report. Following the results announcement, the stock rose 5% in after-hours trading on October 28, according to Investing.com.

A comparison of earnings shows a divergence between the accounting and adjusted measures. Diluted earnings per share under generally accepted accounting principles were $1.11 in the third quarter, compared with $1.27 a year earlier. On a Non-GAAP basis, they rose to $1.51 from $1.35 in the same period of 2025. The divergence places a decline in accounting earnings alongside an improvement in adjusted earnings, while activity and revenue indicators showed year-over-year growth. The company’s shares closed at $117.83 on October 27, according to EL7 data, before the results announcement.

CEO Jamie Iannone said the strong results reflect “continued momentum across our business priorities and customer segments, as more consumers embrace recommerce.” In its statement, the company linked that consumer interest to its business priorities, as gross merchandise volume recorded year-over-year growth of 15%. This comes as the company expands its recommerce business, a strategy also tied to the Depop deal it completed during the quarter. eBay said the acquisition strengthens its position in circular fashion and recommerce. The acquisition was completed on July 30, 2026, for $1.4 billion in cash.

eBay expects fourth-quarter 2026 revenue of $3.19 billion to $3.24 billion and diluted earnings per share on a Non-GAAP basis of $1.48 to $1.53. For fiscal 2026, the company sees revenue of $12.62 billion to $12.67 billion and adjusted diluted earnings per share of $6.25 to $6.30. The company said its fourth-quarter and full-year outlook includes the expected impact of Depop, without separately detailing that impact in the figures provided in the statement. The quarterly and annual guidance offers the company’s indicators for coming periods, following third-quarter growth in revenue and gross merchandise volume. The information provided did not specify another date for updating these ranges.

As part of its cash returns to shareholders, the company announced a dividend of $0.31 per share for the fourth quarter. The dividend will be paid on December 18, 2026, to shareholders of record on December 4. The announcement places the record and payment dates in the final weeks of the year, alongside the company’s fourth-quarter outlook. The December dividend remains set at the amount and on the dates announced by eBay. The available share-price movement after the results announcement was a 5% rise in after-hours trading.
