City Union Bank shares rise 7% after quarterly profit jumps 27%
Key Facts
The stock rose as much as 9% during Wednesday’s session on Oct. 28, according to coverage published the same day by NDTV Profit. The report linked the share move to the bank’s announcement of growth in profit, net interest income and operating profit. The results combined profit growth with improved asset quality indicators, while provisions and reserves increased during the quarter.
Other income was 35,020.88 lakh rupees for the quarter, compared with 25,913.72 lakh rupees a year earlier. Operating profit before provisions and contingencies reached 65,091.21 lakh rupees, compared with 47,058.56 lakh rupees in the corresponding quarter. After provisions and contingencies, the bank posted 12,000 lakh rupees, up from 5,700 lakh rupees a year earlier. These items reflect two concurrent trends in the quarter’s accounts: higher income and operating profit, and larger amounts set aside for provisions. The bank said it set aside 5,000 lakh rupees during the quarter to address unforeseen economic uncertainties.
Nonperforming loan indicators improved from a year earlier, with the gross nonperforming assets ratio at 1.44%, compared with 2.42%, while the net ratio reached 0.48%, down from 0.90%. The comparison also shows both ratios declining from their levels in the previous quarter, when the gross ratio was 1.73% and the net ratio was 0.61%. These indicators improved in the same quarter that provisions and reserves rose to 12,000 lakh rupees from 5,700 lakh rupees a year earlier. Total provisions also included a contingency reserve of 5,000 lakh rupees that the bank said was set aside for economic uncertainty. The results therefore allow asset quality to be assessed alongside the amounts the bank set aside for risk.
Balance-sheet growth extended to deposits and advances. Deposits stood at 8,389,311.92 lakh rupees on Sept. 30, 2026, compared with 6,948,603.43 lakh rupees on the same date a year earlier. Advances reached 7,774,266.61 lakh rupees, compared with 5,668,086.11 lakh rupees a year earlier. On capital, the capital adequacy ratio was 21.26% at the end of September, compared with 21.68% at the end of September 2025. These figures place the expansion in deposits and advances alongside the capital levels and asset quality figures reported by the bank for the quarter and half-year ended Sept. 30.
