Canton Strategic Holdings announced an agreement with TSV LLC to make its common shares available for trading on the TSV platform through the Canton network, a move the company said could make its stock the first U.S. stock tokenized on the network. The company is listed on Nasdaq under the ticker CNTN, but the announcement concerns an intention and future plan and does not mean trading has begun. The stock closed at $2.04 on October 28, 2026, compared with $1.91 in the previous session, according to EL7 data. It had closed at $1.82 on October 26, then $1.91 on October 27. The agreement comes amid a temporary, conditional exemption issued by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for tokenized stock trading platforms, allowing them to operate under specified mechanisms.

The move remains contingent on the platform beginning operations and meeting regulatory and operational requirements. A TSV notice published on September 23, 2026, says the platform has not begun operations and that assets are not currently available for trading. SEC rules require the platform to publish a public notice at least 30 calendar days before operations begin, so the announcement cannot be treated as immediate availability of the stock. The appearance of an entity on a list of platforms also does not, by itself, establish that it meets the definition of a tokenized securities trading platform or the exemption's conditions. The notice limits participation to eligible categories of retail and institutional investors, subject to identity and eligibility verification.

The SEC order sets conditions on the nature of shares that can be traded in this form: tokenized shares must give holders the same rights and privileges as conventional shares of the equivalent class. They are also subject to limits on the number of shares covered and trading volume, according to the SEC statement issued on September 17, 2026. The rules also require the smart contracts used to be auditable, disclosed and published on a public, permissionless distributed ledger. These requirements link tokenized trading to a verifiable ownership and rights record, and set operational limits on permitted activity. If the primary listing exchange halts trading in the underlying stock, TSV must halt trading in its tokenized version at the same time.

The SEC said the exemption is temporary and runs for five years from the date the order is published, and that it is seeking public comment on the exemption and next steps. SEC Chairman Paul Atkins described the exemption as allowing platforms to trade tokenized NMS stocks in a permissioned environment, while the commission considers whether further action is needed. This means the current framework opens a limited path to trading, while its rules remain subject to review before the exemption expires. The order does not itself determine that trading will be available around the clock or that settlement will be immediate. TSV LLC has not begun operations, according to the platform's notice, making the launch date and fulfillment of the conditions the next practical steps.

Canton Strategic's plan is part of broader activity around tokenized asset infrastructure on the Canton network. On October 14, the company announced the release of its third-quarter ecosystem report and said six new super validators joined during the quarter. In its second-quarter operating results, the company had reported recording its first operating revenue from lockup services and super validator operations. On October 28, Fairmint announced the launch of onchain transfer agent services for public companies, saying its subsidiary Fairmint TA LLC is registered with the SEC as a transfer agent. These announcements point to expanding institutional activity around share registration and related onchain services, while availability of CNTN shares itself remains tied to TSV beginning operations and meeting the announced conditions.
