Boot Barn Raises Earnings Per Share to $1.73 as Sales Grow 15.1%
Key Facts
Boot Barn reported that net sales for the fiscal second quarter ended September 26, 2026, rose 15.1% to $581.8 million, compared with $505.4 million a year earlier, while diluted earnings per share came to $1.73. Analysts had estimated earnings per share of $1.64 and revenue of $582.14 million, putting actual sales slightly below expectations. After the announcement, shares fell 2.8% in after-hours trading, according to Reuters via Investing.com. The results show a divergence between revenue growth and comparable-store and e-commerce sales, with consolidated comparable sales increasing 1.4%. This comes as the company prepares for the third quarter, when it expects a wide sales range and comparable sales growth that could reach a contraction.
Comparable sales growth was split between a 1.0% increase in store sales and a 5.2% rise in e-commerce sales, according to data reported by Investing.com citing Reuters. Consolidated comparable sales rose 1.4% in the quarter, putting performance across established channels below overall sales growth of 15.1%. The year-over-year revenue comparison is based on $505.4 million in the same quarter a year earlier, versus $581.8 million in the current period. In the fiscal year ended March 28, 2026, sales rose 17.9% to $2.254 billion, with comparable sales growth of 7.2%. Comparable sales growth therefore slowed from the pace recorded in the previous fiscal year, while the company continued to add locations to its network.
For the fiscal third quarter ending December 26, 2026, the company forecast sales of $785 million to $802 million and diluted earnings per share of $3.03 to $3.19. The comparable-sales range for the quarter allows for a decline of 1% to growth of 1%. This range is consistent with the differing channel performance in the second quarter, when store sales grew 1.0% and e-commerce sales 5.2%, but leaves room for comparable sales to contract in the coming period. These figures provide an early read on monthly performance, while the company’s quarterly forecast runs through the end of December.
Boot Barn’s store count reached 584 at quarter-end after it opened 19 stores during the period, according to company data reported by Investing.com. Chief Executive John Hazen said the new stores "continue to exceed expectations, with recent openings generating sales above our original projections." Hazen linked this performance to the brand’s nationwide reach and long-term expansion opportunities. In May, the company announced plans to open 70 stores in fiscal 2027, alongside expected comparable sales growth of 2.0% to 4.0%.
These operations are taking place alongside the expansion plan, which added 19 stores in the quarter and raised the location count to 584.
The company’s breakdown shows that an improvement in merchandise margin did not fully carry through to the gross profit rate, with store and distribution center costs playing a role in limiting the increase.
