Ensign Awaits Third-Quarter Results and Investor Call on October 28
Key Facts
Ensign Group is awaiting the release of its third-quarter 2026 results after scheduling an investor call and webcast for October 28, according to an investor-relations notice. The call is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. Pacific time, or 1:00 p.m. Eastern time. Until then, figures in the previous draft on third-quarter earnings, annual guidance and liquidity remain unconfirmed. The latest annual guidance published after the second-quarter results put diluted earnings per share at $7.75 to $7.85. The call’s significance therefore centers on the confirmed results and any update management provides to its previous outlook.
In its second-quarter results announcement, Ensign raised its 2026 diluted earnings-per-share guidance range to $7.75–$7.85, from the previous range of $7.48–$7.62. The company said the midpoint of the new range represented an increase of 18.7% compared with 2025 and 41.8% compared with 2024. That provides a basis for comparison with any new guidance management may announce, but does not in itself confirm that the range rose again after the third quarter. In the second quarter, the company reported GAAP diluted earnings of $1.68 per share and adjusted earnings of $1.92. Adjusted earnings rose 20.8% year over year, according to the company’s earnings release.
Consolidated revenue in the second quarter was $1.440 billion, compared with $1.228 billion in the same period of 2025, an annual increase of 17.3%. At existing facilities, Medicare revenue rose 9.8% year over year, while managed-care revenue increased 6.1%. Occupancy at existing facilities was 84.1%, up 2.7% from the second quarter of the previous year. Revenue from the skilled mix at those facilities also rose 10.1% year over year. These indicators provide a picture of operating growth ahead of the third quarter, while distinguishing the performance of existing facilities from the effects of expansion and acquisitions.
Chief Executive Barry Port said the company continued to see strong demand across its portfolio, alongside improved occupancy and skilled mix. He added that, in his view, the second-quarter results strengthened the company’s position for the rest of the year and his confidence in its long-term strategy. The comments link revenue growth to improved occupancy and service mix, but were made in the context of the second-quarter results. They are also insufficient to establish the growth rates attributed to the third quarter in the previous draft. The results call is expected to give management an opportunity to present updates for the latest period.
On expansion, Ensign added seven facilities in Colorado, comprising 760 skilled nursing beds and 47 independent-living units. The acquisition became effective on October 1, 2026, at the start of the fourth quarter. It came after the third-quarter period, so the added facilities should not be counted in that quarter’s results based on the effective date stated in the company’s announcement. The expansion provides context for the coming period, alongside the growth at existing facilities shown in the second-quarter results. The October 28 call will give management an opportunity to present quarterly results and comment on its outlook. Ensign shares closed at $176.92 on October 26, according to EL7 data.
