FDC raises quarterly profit 72.9% to 49 crore rupees as operating margin improves
Key Facts
FDC raised its net profit after tax 72.9% year on year to 49 crore rupees in the second quarter of fiscal 2027, compared with 28 crore rupees in the same period, according to the company’s results summary. Consolidated operating revenue was 572 crore rupees, up 21% from 473 crore rupees a year earlier. Profit before tax rose to 65 crore rupees from 38 crore rupees, according to the same summary. The results show revenue and profit growth during the quarter, alongside an improvement in the EBITDA margin. Performance was uneven across the company’s businesses, however, as revenue from its active pharmaceutical ingredients business declined.
EBITDA was 64 crore rupees in the second quarter, and its margin rose to 11.2% from 7.1% in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year, according to a summary of the BSE filing. The wider margin points to improved operating profitability relative to revenue during the period, alongside sales growth. Earnings per share also rose to 3.01 rupees from 1.75 rupees a year earlier. For the first half of fiscal 2027, operating revenue was 1,240 crore rupees, up 10.6% from 1,121 crore rupees in the first half of fiscal 2026. That puts the quarter’s 21% growth above the pace of revenue growth recorded in the first six months.
By contrast, revenue from the active pharmaceutical ingredients business fell 4.8% year on year to 28 crore rupees in the second quarter, according to the filing summary. This means overall revenue growth did not extend to every business, leaving the segment a weak spot in the period’s results. Across the market, India’s pharmaceutical market grew 13.5% by value year on year in September 2026, while sales volumes rose 3.5%, the highest volume growth in two years, according to Business Standard. Sheetal Sapale, vice president of commercial affairs at Pharmarack, said, "Most categories, except the respiratory drugs segment, recorded strong growth driven by volumes." She added that volumes of cardiac drugs rose 9.1% in September, while the segment accounted for 14% of the Indian pharmaceutical market’s value during the month.
CRISIL Ratings expects revenue for India’s pharmaceutical sector to grow between 11% and 13% in the current fiscal year, compared with growth of 8% in the previous year, driven by an acceleration in exports and improved domestic demand. The agency expects higher raw material, energy and freight costs to limit the conversion of revenue growth into earnings, with a 150–200 basis-point squeeze on operating margins. In the domestic market, CRISIL forecast growth of between 9% and 11% during the fiscal year, with volume growth recovering to 4%–5% from about 2% in each of the two previous fiscal years. In October 2026, FDC’s board approved a share buyback worth 120 crore rupees at 500 rupees per share. The company set November 13, 2026, as the record date for shareholders eligible for the buyback.
India’s Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation is scheduled to release the September industrial production index on October 28, 2026, according to the release date announced by the ministry. The index includes manufacturing activity as one of its components; it is not a separate manufacturing production statement. The index is being released on its announced date and provides a broader reading of India’s industrial activity during the month. FDC’s results put quarterly revenue growth at 21%, with operating profit higher and its margin improved compared with the corresponding quarter. At the same time, revenue from the active pharmaceutical ingredients business declined, while shareholders await the share buyback’s November record date.
