Etsy Extends CFO Transition Through July 1, 2027, and Searches for Successor in New York
Key Facts
Etsy announced on October 28 that Chief Financial Officer Lani Baker will leave the company effective March 1, 2027, to pursue opportunities elsewhere. The company said Baker is expected to remain as an adviser through July 1, 2027, to help management complete the transition. Etsy has not named a successor, but has retained an executive search firm to help find a replacement. The new CFO is expected to be based in New York. The arrangements set out a transition lasting several months as the company reported third-quarter results and its outlook for the next period.
Chief Executive Kruti Patel Goyal said Baker had been an "exceptional partner" since they began working together in early 2025. She praised his leadership and contributions to executing the company's priorities and improving its performance. Baker said he had spent the past two years as CFO and was proud of the progress in reigniting growth and strengthening the company's financial foundation. He added that management would work together to ensure a smooth transition to a new CFO in 2027. Baker received the offer for the role in November 2024 and began in the position on January 1, 2025, succeeding Rachel Glaser, who announced her decision to retire in July 2024.
The announcement coincided with results showing that active buyers on Etsy's marketplace returned to annual growth for the first time in two years. Their number rose 1.0% to about 88 million on a trailing 12-month basis through the third quarter of 2026. Adjusted EBITDA margin was 30.4% in the quarter, while the company reported net income of $114 million. Etsy attributed the improvement to continued strength in its app and the efficiency of paid marketing, alongside organic visits remaining at healthy levels. The company said improvements to search and discovery help surface higher-quality inventory that is more relevant to buyers.
Etsy raised its fourth-quarter 2026 outlook, estimating gross merchandise sales of between $3.46 billion and $3.52 billion, an annual increase of 5% to 7%. It also forecast an adjusted EBITDA margin of about 30%. The outlook follows second-quarter results in which the company posted revenue of $668.3 million, up 6.2% year over year, and net income of $114.3 million. Etsy marketplace gross merchandise sales grew 7.5% year over year in the second quarter after excluding Reverb from the comparison period. The company scheduled its third-quarter results call for October 28 at 8:30 a.m. Eastern time, with a replay available from noon for at least three months.
